Dating Slim

 

1956

Zippo starts production of slim lighters. The lghters have a flat bottom. The insert has a " wheel guard " ( cobra head ) to protect the flintwheel.

1957

The insert has the same logo as in 1956 but lacks the " wheel guard ".

1958

The insert variation still has the horizontal logo , althoug the " Flints and Fluid " logo has been added above the  " Patent Number " logo.

Now Slims are also produced in Niagarafalls Ontario Canada. Those Canada Slims can only be identified by the insert.

1959

The logo runs the length of the insert from now on and the chimney on this model is not longer dimpled. This model must have a " large hollow " rivet.

1960

1960 there are two different bottom stamps.

Circa 1964 Zippo replaced the " hollow " rivet in the flint wheel with a " solid " rivet on slim models.

1965

1965 the lighter has no Date- Code.

From August 1967 the Patent Number is missing. The canned bottom is produced from the end of 1967 up, there are two versions of this canned bottom.

The " Zodiac Series " are marketed.

Zippo modified the wind holes on the chimney by making them smaller, as well as modifying the chimney's rear view.
